Mid Island Weavers and Spinners (and other fibre enthusiasts) Guild

This is the Mid Island Weavers and Spinners (and other fibre enthusiasts) blog page. The group meets the first Wednesday of the month during the fall/winter/spring (September through to June). Meetings are now being held at the library downtown on Commercial St upstairs in their meeting room. Guests are welcome to come...bring your knitting, spinning wheel or other fibre addictions. Meetings usually consist of 5 minutes of business, show and tell (bring something), tea and cookies, and some sort of workshop, seminar or talk where you will learn something fibry and interesting.

Nuno Felt Scarf Workshop

Saturday, February 1st from 12:30 - 4:00 pm
It’s a New Year and I’m surrounded by friends, family and co-workers who are determined to shed the extra weight that seems to collect over the holiday season. It’s a commendable goal and I too have decided to take up the challenge of losing a few ounces - in my felting that is! One of my favourite ways of becoming lighter being is through Nuno Felting.
Nuno Felting is a technique where wool and silk are fused into soft, airy and incredibly drape-able fabrics and clothing. It's amazing how you can transform a few grams of wool and a length of silk into a one of a kind scarf.

You will learn tips, tricks and techniques for successfully creating nuno-felt fabrics and you will leave with a completed, one of a kind scarf that you can keep or give as a gift to a loved one. They make fantastic gifts and are a staple in my own wardrobe.

So join me and lose weight the easy way!
Date:  Saturday, February 1st from 12:30 - 4:00 pm
Location:  St. Aidan's Church (3703 St. Aidan's St. just off Shelbourne and Cedar Hill X-Road)
Class Size:  4-6
Cost:  $95 ($65 instruction + $30 materials)
Materials:  All materials will be provided and you will have a chance to pick your colour palette prior to the class.
Register:  email felttrix@gmail.com or call 250-857-9397

Cancellation policy:  If I need to cancel for any reason, a full refund will be provided. Because I need to rent space (and custom dye your silk) a refund will only be provided up to 72 hours before the class. If I can fill your space, I may be able to be more flexible on this. I will do my best to work with you.
Please note: Some nuno felting experience - whether with me or or on your own - is a prerequisite for those of you who have asked for a tunic workshop.

Happy New Year

Here's a lovely video that Kathy spotted on "The Japanese process of Yuzen adds hand dyed designs and colors to the traditional kimono. In this video, the entire process from initial sketch to final embroidery is featured, to show off a kimono's handcrafted beauty." Click here to see it: http://wimp.com/processyuzen/

It's the third Wednesday of the month!  This summer weather has us all relaxing and the third Wednesday snuck up on me. Apologies for such a late posting.  Bring your wheel, or your spindle, or your knitting, or a friend...and don't forget something for show and tell.  Wednesday Oct 17th. 7 pm.
