Up coming Bias Basket Weave Workshop

Alison Irwin

Paper Bias Weave Baskets Workshop

I'll try to get the pictures to send later.

The class is Sunday March 8th from 10-4 (daylight savings changes the night before) at the Country Grocer( meeting room upstairs) on Bowen Road

Cost $20 plus $10 for the materials. Please sign up soon and Tell Lynn tonight or let me know by email by this weekend. Minimum 8 participants and ,maximum 10.

We will be making Bias weave baskets made from scrapbooking paper that is run through a paper shredder, and they're just a little larger than a business card. We will design different colour and weave patterns for these baskets. Possibly putting beads on one.

Each student should come with paper scissors, a fine tapestry needle (size 28), and a small metal nail file
Students will need to bring pencil crayons, 1/4" graph paper, and a pencil & eraser.

We are doing this so we will have the knowledge to be able to help the Tzouhalem Guild with a project for the upcoming conference in Victoria in 2017.

Minutes of the Mid Island Weavers and Spinners Guild

18 People Present

Dream Spin still has some spaces but no more can come to the one day sale.

Library-New- Ply and Handwoven magazines are in.

May 31st at the Bradley Centre is the Annual Fleece and Fibre Fair

Our Stash and re stash sale- (March 21st from 9-2)we have 30 tables to sell-It is a bit slow yet. People are going to bake for it so we can sell a plate of goodies and coffee or tea.

Guest named Erma or Erna will be coming to the spinning night. We think she left glasses but hasn’t phoned about them.

Liz Joined the Tzouhalem Guild in Duncan and when people join they are given a welcome letter with information and suggested that we do something similar.

Liz is organizing a Sunday where Alison Irwin comes from Duncan to teach the paper weaving so that we can help make woven name tags for the big ANWG conference which is to be in Victoria in 2017.

Pat came up with a great Idea for our guild booth for the conference in 2017. she handed out sheet with the colours and idea and we all thought that it was a great plan. We should start working now. We will be using the conference colours and the theme. For more information go to http://www.anwgconference2017.com/

We had a book suggestion which Betty moved to buy the suggested book for our library and moved that we adjorn so that we could have the planned programme on basketry with Debbie McCelland. The programme was really well done with the types of baskets grouped into continents or countries and Debbie had lots of examples of each of the groupings. It was a lot of work to do and we really appreciated her doing the programme.

I got a list of the members from Crystal and am endeavouring to get it straight on the yahoo list but the Yahoo list hasn’t many names like nanny granny etc. That I cant associate with a real person! just the email addresses so it is hard to do so hopefully everyone will get the notices now! Some addresses had .ca instead of .com etc.
