Annual Pot luck June 1st

 Our Annual June Meeting to wind up the year is June the first at 6pm. There will be a silent auction and people can bring food to share as well as show and tell and something for the silent auction. Just for June it will be held at
"Fiddick's Farm BB" or go to www.island.net/~fiddick there are written
instructions to get here on the webpage if they do not have GPS or
Google map on their phone.

Old Business

We discussed ANWG conference and sending them money for the bags that will be recyclable. Heather Sinclair moved that we send money as they need a commitment by June and we didn't think they were going to order things (like cups) from China and it would be local. Kathy McDonald seconded it and all were in favor. Lynn brought up the Romney Batt from Birkland Brothers Julie Getting moved that we use it for the booth and seconded by Margo Turner. All were in favor, and it was divided up for people to spin and dye or felt for our ANWG booth.

One of our Life members Evelyn Hempinstall died recently. I tried to find more information but was unable to.

New Business

It was suggested we have a picnic in the park in the summer and take spinning and weaving to promote the guild. We could hand out information and make cards. $50 for 500 cards. We need new contacts and information. Some one was going to talk to Crystal before ordering. Liz Kaarremaa moved we spend the$50 and Margo Turner Seconded the motion and all were in favor.

Agenda for May meeting Crystal. Liz has had contact with Sylvia Olson on a workshop with Sylvia on Salish Knitting. Sylvia has been doing a PhD and after may will be in contact. Meeting Adjourned by Jeannette Brooks.

Kathy McDonald says there is a New Societies Act which we will need to find out about and get registered.

Jeannette Brooks is going to take over as secretary from me

Crystal We hope is continuing as treasurer-to be confirmed soon

Margo Turner will continues as the librarian

We had a great Show and Tell and if I can I will post [pictures when I get a chance.

Liz Kaarremaa gave an excellent talk on Coast Salish Spinning and the research she has done on the dog hair used in spinning for her final level, 6, of her master Spinners Certificate.

Meeting tonight

Tonights meeting is at 7 pm and the Hostesses are Darlene and Anne
Ten of us are meeting at Gina's restaurant right near where the meetings are held. We are meeting there at 5:30.
Liz will be talking about Coast Salish Spinning and showing pictures. It is also our AGM to elect next years executive.

Minutes for the Weavers and Spinners Guild for March 2016

We had the Treasurers report which I didn't get down.

We had a new Member from Protection Island join Suzanne Lamoureux

Old Business- one of the colours has been changes for the ANWG conference.

Discussion about the conference wanting Guilds to donate money instead of making things for the goody bags at the conference. People only wanted to donate if we were treading lightly on the environment and not ordering mugs made in China and not locally made

Anything we pay for should be made locally was the point.

Lambs wool from Birkland brothers that Lynne Vander Linde has in her closet was brought up. Are we spinning it for the conference? Dying it. No conclusion.

Liz reported that she still hasn't heard about the Cowichan knitting class with Sylvia Olsen. The book publisher has not got back to her and neither has Silvia.

New Business

A Small salish loom was donated to the guild by Julie Devereux

and a motion was made by Liz Kaarremaa and seconded by Julie Gettings to keep the loom and Liz will store it. The meeting was adjourned. Motion made by Lynne Vander Linde and seconded by Anne Fiddick.

Salish loom donation

This is the newest addition to the Guild's equipment.  It was donated by Julie Devereux.  Thank you Julie!
It is 17" wide by 30" and has holes in the side so you can make larger textiles, probably as long as 60".
While the Church hall is being renovated in will be stored but if any member wants to borrow it, please email miwsguild at gmail.com

Coast Salish Weavers Symposium

Three members (Liz, Sheila, Autumn)attended this symposium and had an incredible time.  Here is a video that put together featuring the fashion show that was held.  Hosted by the Suquamish Museum- photos and compilation by Kathy Cadigan; song is the Suquamish/Tulalip song sung by Suquamish Song & Dance."  We will tell you more at Wednesday's Guild meeting.

2017 ANWG conference

The 2017 Northwest Weavers Conference sponsored by ANWG will be held in Victoria B.C. on the grounds of the University of Victoria (so close!!!). The dates for the pre-conference workshops are June 28th to June 30th. The conference is July 1st and July 2nd. 2017.

The Theme “Treadle Lightly ” represents a concern for the environment and having a smaller footprint on the earth.
